Protect your skin and the ocean with our Turmeric and Vanilla Sunscreen. Water and sweat resistant, this natural sunscreen is made with 8 nourishing botanicals and 2 minerals for long-lasting hydration. Use it as an "after sun" product and enjoy its delicious scent. Say yes to healthy skin and a happy planet! Made by artisans in Guatemala using ancient Mayan healing techniques. The Maya word for vanilla is zizbic, and it was used with copal resin as incense, and to treat insect bites and heal wounds. Vanilla was traded as a commodity along with cacao, that were then combined into a delicious drink.

Ingredients: cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, macadamia ternifolia (macadamia) seed oil, zinc oxide, theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, cera alba (beeswax), ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, titanium dioxide, tagetes patula (french marigold) flowers, curcuma longa (turmeric) root & vanilla planifolia bean absolute.
How to Use: Gently rub fingers in the balm and generously apply to both face and body. For optimal effectiveness, apply sunscreen at least every 2 hours and even more often if swimming or sweating in intense sun exposure

Orders are processed and shipped Monday-Friday. Fulfillment may take 3-5 business days (though we will do our best for it to be faster).

We primarily ship via UPS. USPS is used for PO Boxes or when customers make specific arrangements. Additional shipping charges may apply if an order is returned to us by the carrier.

Return Policy

We offer a 30 day return window for product purchased from ThistleFarms.org, The Shop At Thistle Farms or at an official Thistle Farms pop-up event. For exchanges, please process a return and re-order the item you wish to receive.

For issues with Thistle Farms products purchased from other retailers, please contact that retailer directly for a replacement or refund.

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you can send it back for a full refund within 30 days of receiving your order. To be eligible for a return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase, and your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it.

A pre-paid shipping label will be provided and a $7 shipping cost dedicated from the refund. Once your return is received and inspected, we will send an email to notify you when your refund has been processed.

The only items we cannot issue a refund on are items purchased that have been marked down, gift cards, special orders, and shipping charges.

MISSION Tierra & Lava is a beauty brand infused with ancient Mayan healing knowledge.

HISTORY Founder Lucy Ashman started her career in the eco-tourism industry which was her way of being able to invest the results of her education in Belize where she grew up rather than be part of the brain drain issue which was the situation at the time. She was passionate about nature’s ‘pharmacy’ all of her life and intrigued by how ancient cultures - and especially the Maya - understood and used the medicinal value of natural resources. It is just as important to Lucy that science supports this in order to give customers the best possible results.

VISION As an all women-owned and women-run business, Tierra & Lava is dedicated to providing Guatemalan women with a living wage and opportunities for economic empowerment. This effort helps to combat economic exclusion and gender inequality in a region where these issues are deeply entrenched.
